Library Assistant 1- Full Time
Salary: $15.50/Hour
General Purpose:
Library Assistant 1 provides a wide variety of basic public, technical, and clerical services, including information and reference services, reader’s advisory, circulation services, and administrative support. Essential Functions:
1. Answers telephones and provides routine information or refers to and transfers calls.
2. Performs circulation desk duties, including greeting patrons, checking in and out library materials, registering new patrons, collecting fines, and shelving books.
3. Performs other library-related functions such as opening or closing the library, shelving materials, shelf reading, searching for reserved or overdue materials, etc.
4. Assist with the program preparation and implementation for middle and high school students.
5. Processes, withdraws, repairs, or reconditions library materials.
6. Maintains library public areas in a clean and orderly fashion by sustaining orderly shelves, and refilling displays.
7. Assists patrons with computer use and troubleshoots basic computer problems.
8. Prepares flyers and other publicity strategies to promote library activities.
9. Assists in posting to all social media outlets and web presence.
10. Clean, straighten, and organize the library as needed.
11. Performs related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Experience working in a library, volunteer or paid, bookstore experience.
2. Experience working with middle or high school students or job experience that focuses on delivering a quality customer service experience.
3. Able to learn library clerical procedures and practices.
4. Basic understanding of using computer software, copier, and fax.
5. Skilled in typing and the ability to do data entry using a computer terminal.
6. Able to understand and follow written and oral instructions independently.
7. Good attendance and punctuality.
8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, regardless of race, color, religion, age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, marital status, or political affiliation.
Training and Experience:
Graduated from high school or possession of a GED. Experience working or volunteering in a library or bookstore environment.
Licenses, Certificates, Special Requirements:
A valid Florida driver's license on the date of hire. Must be able to work multiple late nights.

Medium, repetitive work. Ability to see, hear, and listen, talk; detailed finger dexterity (including grasping and small tool manipulation), may require visually acuity for fine print. Ability to lift and push 25+ pounds, carry, bend, reach, kneel, crouch, stretch, twist, and climb. Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Mental Demands:
Ability to read and comprehend professional and technical manuals, procedures, and journals, memos, policies, safety instructions, etc. Ability to speak clearly and concisely. Ability to relate information, data, and detail verbally and in writing. Ability to perform basic mathematical and monetary functions.
