Bilingual Library Assistant 1(Tuesday-Saturday Work Schedule)
Salary: $ 15.50 Hour DOQ


General Purpose:
Entry-level paraprofessional library work for a full-service desk focusing on the needs of patrons who speak Spanish. Provides a wide variety of basic public, technical, and clerical services, including information and reference services, reader’s advisory, circulation services, and administrative support. Essential Functions:
1. Provides front-line, telephone, and/or electronic service to patrons, focusing on those who speak Spanish.
2. Performs library functions such as registering new patrons, charging/discharging library items, resolving patron accounting matters, material retrieval, inventory control, collection of fines/fees, etc.
3. Performs other library-related functions such as opening or closing the library, shelving materials, shelf reading, searching for reserved or overdue materials, etc.
4. Under the direction of the librarian, director, or library associate, assists with the preparation and implementation of various Spanish adult, teen, or children's programs.
5. Assists with book displays.
6. Assist the patron with ready-reference questions and reader advisory, and will refer more advanced questions to the librarian.
7. Answers directional questions and refers patrons to appropriate personnel.
8. Processes, withdraws, repairs, or reconditions library materials.
9. Attends workshops or meetings as required.
10. Performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of basic techniques, including shelving, numerical sorting, and alphabetization.
2. Knowledge of basic computer skills.
3. Knowledge of basic mathematical & monetary functions.
4. Knowledge of basic customer service skills.
5. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, volunteers, and the Public.
6. Ability to maintain accurate records relating to collections, accounting for library materials, etc.
7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials, and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, regardless of race, color, religion, age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, marital status or political affiliation.

Training and Experience:
1. Graduated from high school or possession of a GED.
2. Required to speak and read Spanish fluently.
Licenses, Certificates, Special Requirements:
A valid Florida driver's license on the date of hire. Must be able to work Tuesdays – Saturdays.

Physical Demands:
Medium, repetitive work. Ability to see, hear, and listen, talk; detailed finger dexterity (including grasping and small tool manipulation), may require visual acuity for fine print. Ability to lift and push 25+ pounds, carry, bend, reach, kneel, crouch, stretch, twist, and climb. Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Mental Demands:
Ability to read and comprehend professional and technical manuals, procedures, and journals, memos, policies, safety instructions, etc. Ability to speak clearly and concisely. Ability to relate information, data, and detail verbally and in writing. Ability to perform basic mathematical and monetary functions.
