The Housing and Neighborhood Development Office works to improve Polk County's communities and help its most fragile residents, those who are very low, low or moderate income persons may be eligible for assistance. It does this by using special state and federal grant funds for numerous projects.

Residential Owner Occupied Rehabilitation and Emergency Repairs

Homes that are in need of repair to correct code violations, health and safety issues, roofing systems (including soffit and fascia), septic tanks, wells, and handicapped accessibility including ramps, grab bars, and widening doors. Emergency repairs focuses on dire situations that need to be mitigated immediately; a damaged roof that is leaking; failing septic systems spilling sewage on the ground; nonfunctioning water systems that pose an immediate health hazard to the occupants of the unit.

Residential Reconstruction Assistance

Provides reconstruction of homes for very low or low income owners that are unfeasible for rehabilitation.

Residential Disaster Assistance Programs

Implemented only in the event of a local natural disaster declaration by the governor; emergency repair or reconstruction for owner occupied households.
